I think this is one of the few real advantages we have compared to shopping blindly. They are simply the ones that fit well and survive many rounds of washing or daily use. For light summer tops I keep to my normal size to avoid a baggy look. I enjoy reading threads where people honestly share what worked and what failed for them. For fashion and clothing I pay attention to fabric thickness and stitching details. Forums, blogs and communities create a kind of collective memory for shoppers.
If anyone is interested in real user experiences, I sometimes write short notes about the shops I test.

Sometimes I even measure an existing frame with a ruler before ordering anything new. Each material has advantages and disadvantages depending on season and activity. Trendy pieces are fun, but I only buy them when the price is reasonable. It makes it easier to compare with an old pair of glasses that already fits well. Nobody wants pretty shoes that hurt after ten minutes of walking. Over the last months I noticed that some of my favorite items are not the most expensive ones. If a piece of jewelry keeps its color and does not irritate the skin, I consider it a win. If they ignore basic questions or reply with copy pasted text, I become suspicious.
Hope this helps someone.
